American curly cat not known for her hair, but due to a mutation that causes bending the ears of these cats backwards to afford its very special appearance. American curly cat can appear in three stages: a cat with ears only turned back (first degree) called the American curly straight ears and become pets, those with 50% rotation (second degree) are used for breeding and those with full crescent (third level) compete at shows.
Kittens are the spawn of the ears with normal appearance, and usually half the litter gets folded ears at the age of about a week, which has been developed over several months. Despite their appearance, even bent the ears of the third degree, the cat can be rotated like any other cats with normal ears!
The origin of the breed is not known, although in 1981 a black, long-haired stray kitten with unusual ears bent found a new home with Grace and Joe Ruga in Lakeland, California. Couple Ruga machete was named Shulamith, which means “peaceful”, according to the shepherdess from the Song of Songs, and all of today’s curly cats – long-haired and short-haired – encourage her.
In December 1981, Shulamith gave birth to four kittens, and two had the same bent ears. Couple Ruga realized that he could create a new breed because it was the dominant feature.
Cats were first shown at an exhibition in 1983 in California, and it was soon officially recognized in the United States, and the first US curly cats arrived in Britain in 1995. Nevertheless, the American curl cat became popular not only because of its distinctive face – often being described as a “fairy”, highlights gently sloping shaped eyes walnut – but because of its lively, friendly and independent spirit.
Medium-sized and moderately strong muscles, curly cat has strong legs, slightly curved at the front and hind legs are slightly longer than the front. The long-haired cats, all highlighted by lush tail, and in the short-tail and long body and wide at the base and tapering towards the top.
Standards for the exhibition of the American shorthair cats and their long-haired relatives differ only in the length of the coat.
