It often happens that people do not distinguish between animals that actually belong to different races, genders and even species. Some will see that the seal and sea lion same, while others will not be able to discern between salamanders and lizards.
The similarities of these animals sometimes occur due to genetic relatedness, but sometimes I just kind of start to evolve in the same direction.
Today, we are here to help you: we will point you in ten couples that people often confuse.
Meet the animal kingdom in its similarity and diversity!
1. Lama and Alpaca
Both belong to the family Camelidae. Their most obvious difference is the weight, ears and length
2. Opossum and Possum
Although they share a single letter, these critters are significantly different. Opossums inhabit North America, while the suspects live even in Australia. Confusion about the name makes a botanist Joseph Banks, who, believing that this is a relative of the opossum, possum given a similar name.
3. Moth and Butterfly
Both belong to the order Lepidoptera. Sometimes it’s easy to find a difference between them, while in other cases it will not succeed even those with the best observation. The clearest difference between them is the antenna: it is the butterfly thin flange at the top, while the moth covered in fluffy growths.
4. Porpoises and Dolphins
Both mammal belonging to the family of Cetacea. The easiest way to distinguish them by the beak, which is the dolphin very pronounced. The Dolphins have sharper teeth, while those porpoises round shape.
5. The rabbit and Hare
This is one of the most commonly confused pairs. Although both belong to the order Lagomorpha, rabbits are much bigger and faster and have stronger legs and prominent ears. Rabbits are common as pets, though most people think that it is a rabbit.
6. Seal and Sea lion
Although they have similar, cute mustached head seals, unlike sea lions, no visible ears. Seals are, moreover, smaller, and more comfortable in the water. They know how to land only to crawl, while sea lions and know how to “walk”.
7. Crocodile and Alligator
These cousins, reptiles of the order Crocodylia vary widely in shape head: alligator head is quite long, the pointed shape, whereas in alligators much shorter and more rounded. When the alligator mouth shut, most of the teeth they see, they can not be said for alligators.
These yellow-black insects are most easily distinguished by size, because they felt a lot bigger. In addition, the bees are, because of their “profession”, covered with hairs that retain the pollen, the axis of smooth and glossy. Wasps are very aggressive, especially when you have to defend their nest.
9. Aardark and Anteater
Both animals have an elongated snout and feed on ants. Of their similarity, however, this is no longer, as they belong to different species. Cevozupke live in Africa, while porcupines inhabit Central and South America.
10. The lizard and Salamander
Although resemble each other, they belong to different species. Lizards are reptiles, and amphibians salamanders belong. Therefore salamander lives near the water, while the lizard can be found in much drier conditions.
